Tutor Feedback Assignment 2

My feedback from my tutor has helped me reflect and look at how far I have come. 10 years ago I was working full time doodling away at any chance I could get whilst at work. Now I work part time, doing a degree and have my own art Pet Portrait business.. Not only is my career moving in the right direction but also my techniques and skills, ways of thinking have all evolved. My use of colours, composition and medium are now automatically things I think about when doing anything creative. I have discovered my joy of working with paper and using it to create a 3D layer style to my illustrations. As I go along this course I am finding new ways to use paper to improve my designs and techniques that help show my personal voice.

My tutor has noticed this improvement which is great!

I re-created the Assignment one final, Originally it was created in photoshop which was not really my usual style. After I received my feedback from my tutor I felt it was not good enough so I recreated the illustration as a paper model, using strings to form the web. My tutor said it was an improvement and more to my usual work.

For the exercise Architectural Illustration my technical initial drawings are great, I think this was the best I have ever done for perspective. I then used these to then understand the buildings structure and compare their personalities as I see them in a cartoony way. I have looked and the tutor has told me that I didn't quite follow the task - It was actually to compare the buildings materials but I just thought it meant to compare them to each other. I got that a bit wrong. However I feel the work I produced was still good and I did put a lot into creating it.

From the rest of the feedback it was all positive such as my life capturing skills are becoming more successful and my sketch books and logs show a lot of work and are very informative.

One of the other things he pointed out was to try not to use paper all the time but instead use photos or make collages to find other ways to do illustrations around paper. I will keep this in mind when doing the next assignments.

My critical review has so far been just ideas what I could talk about. I want to be able to relate to something and show my understanding of it.

Overall I am still feeling positive even though I have had a lot on this year and this Illustration 2 course is taking a long time to complete but I am getting there and I hope people can see I am putting as much time as I can at the moment to produce some great work.

ASS3 - Project 2 Image and Text

Research Point     Kafka’s short story The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung), first published in 1915, is a strongly visual tale of a man called Gregor who wakes up one day to find himself transformed into a beetle. The story then explores how Gregor and his parents deal with this transformation. The Metamorphosis is set in Gregor’s bedroom in his parents’ house, and the door of the room becomes an important visual metaphor for being trapped.  Research how different illustrators have tackled this story.
