ASS2 - Critical Review Thoughts

My Critical review

Here above are my interests, Styles of art and areas in which I feel my style would be suited too.

For my Critical review I have written below some subjects and headings which I feel strongly about: Some are not only important to me, but also to today's world.

  • Helping the planet through art - How to influence the viewers to get involved
  • How do I illustrate to educate the younger generation to help look after our oceans/Planet
  • Hope in time for critical Climate change - How children stories can save the world
  • Observation of endangered animals and how to use art to help protect them and maintain conversations.
  • Pet Portraits - Keeping our special friends (pets) who have past alive through portraits
  • History of pet portraits - How have they changed?
  • Cutout animation - A dying form of art or on trend?

Even though I think I have some good Ideas, I need to think of more conflicts and strong discussions to make my critical review stand out. However I do know I am at an early stage and these are my first initial thoughts in preparation for it. I will keep thinking and looking at inspiring articles online and books to become more confident in my chosen subjects to help discover what I want to do..

Notes on Assignment 2 Exercises

What have you enjoyed doing the most, or the least, and why?
I have enjoyed the most looking in to fashion illustration, architectural, and science illustration.

Fashion - because you are free to just have fun and create wonderful designs of clothing - no longer are the days where you have to make a person look like a person it is now more loose and in that respect you get to open your creativity more and let loose

Architectural - this was a very very tough challenge for me. I dislike perspective and technical drawing but I am putting it here as I feel that I gave it my best shot at the exercise and at the end had created something that was great fun and interesting contrast form a old to a modern building.

Science illustration is my third I found it very enjoyable and it has made me want to do more in regard to animal ethology and perhaps even botanical illustration I am very interested in species facts about animals and plants and being able to help them through illustration and understand them more would be just great.

What I like the least was probably the courtroom illustration - I thought about it as if it was my job as an illustrator but i think I would get bored drawing just people- I would find the crimes interesting but there is no looseness there and creatively.

Which pieces of work do you feel have been your most successful and why?
I feel the most successful was my architectural illustration, it shows a clear contrast to old and modern buildings by showing the old and modern buildings as different characters which brings personality to a city.

Science illustration flower - I really enjoyed drawing and collecting information from the flower it was great to observe something and report on its findings and observations.

Have these exercises helped you to think about things in new ways or try out new ways of working? What have they been and how has your viewpoint changed?
Yes it has helped me become more interested in recording things such as journeys, writing notes and describing things, as well as an illustration. I have really enjoyed being more aware and observing. I think it has helped me a lot by improving my creative thinking and my viewpoint. I now want to look at things more critically and observe what is more around me to give me inspiration in my art.

If there’s one area you would like to develop further, what is it?

Out of the exercises in this Ass2 it would have to be Science Illustration esp Animal Ethology and Botanical. I think I could really get into the whole discovery and observing details of animals and plants through illustration. What makes it even so more appealing that not only I would be illustrating something I'm passionate about but it may also be helping these animals and plants survive and educate people.
