ASS1 - Project 2 - Project Developing your drawing

My Own experiment - Watercolour and ink practice

Today I have experimented with watercolours, creating random shapes with the paint and then once dry I have doodled on top of them using ink. It was fun to just be a bit free and draw from my imagination. I discovered that the colours go lighter once dried and they work well as a base for adding colour to line art. colour.

Exercise: Draw, draw and draw again

Task: Pick some reference material to draw from, perhaps a single photograph with a figure and some other details. It could be a photograph you’ve taken or one you’ve found. Draw what’s in the photograph – the figure, their expression, their clothes, the setting. Try and record all the information from the photograph in your drawing. Now, draw it a second time but do it quicker. Pick out the important elements in the image and focus your drawing on these. Leave out the information that is less important. Put the original photograph away and draw it again, this time from memory and with reference to your other drawings. Finally, draw it again, this time with no reference material at all.

For this task I have chosen the below photo:

Its of a happy memory when me my partner were in Disney land. I am now going to study this photo and do several different drawings as the instructions given in the task.

Detailed Drawing 15min

Quicker Drawing 6min

Drawing only looking at previous sketches

Drawing from memory no reference

I found this test to be quite useful because it shows you and makes you understand that just picking out important areas of an image or place you are looking at, can create an image and capture it well. My dreaings are not perfect but that does not matter as they are draft drawing trying to capture the moment. As I have been drawing for quite a while in my sketchbooks I seem to understand that the more you draw and observe things and places around you the quicker and fluent you become at drawing but also picking out the main important features to put into your sketch to capture the Moment or the place. I think that this is also a good exercise to show how to reference before a final piece of artwork it helps you to not only see things clear but also captures the image in your mind which helps you to be more understanding and accuracy of what you want to show in your artwork

Paper practice

It's been a while since I posted and I decided to put my degree on hold for a couple of months this was due to me opening up my own art shop online selling paper stationery and home decor that I have designed it took me about a good 4 months to plan brainstorm experiment and finally produced my items here are some below to show you:

As you can see I have gone with a certain theme using pastel colours and creating whimsical characters to be attractive to my target market. I really enjoyed the whole aspect of creating different products and making sure that people would enjoy them once my shop opened. I have also been quite busy with my other small business called Paper Pawtraits this is where I create pet portraits but I use my style of creating layers out of paper to make their pets in 3D here are my latest ones:

I really enjoyed making this one and I think I did a great job here capturing her pet rabbits fur and characters I have a few more orders that I need to do and will post on here at some point with more that I will do along the way.
